I would consider us to be Disney fanatics. We love visiting the parks, watching the movies and just about anything Disney related. We went to Disney World for our honeymoon, we love it that much. We try to visit one of the resorts at least once a year. Being foodies also means we’ve eaten a lot of things at Disneyland. So much that we thought we’d put together a list of our favorite cheap eats at Disneyland and California Adventure.
The more and more time I spend at Disneyland the more I fall in love with it. It’s different from Disney World but in a good way. It just feels more homey. We’ve spent a lot of time eating different things all throughout Disneyland and California Adventure and we’ve come up with a list of our top 10 favorites.
The Disney parks are great fun but they’re not cheap. And the prices just keep increasing year after year. Seriously Disney, if you’re listening, make disney affordable again!
The Best Cheap Eats at Disneyland and California Adventure
When we sat down to put this list together we decided to do our favorite cheap eats. The problem is that Disneyland food is always changing and some things are seasonal but we did our best. These are the things you can usually buy from the street vendors, quick service and small stores. These items are generally $10 and under. They are tasty, filling and inexpensive.
1. Hand Dipped Corn Dogs at Little Red Wagon inside Disneyland
Chances are good that when you walk down Main Street U.S.A. you will smell some awesome food. Right at the end of Main Street you will find one of the best carnival treats in Disneyland, corn dogs. The Little Red Wagon serves up some of the best corn dogs we’ve ever had. Rich buttery batter coating a beefy dog is pure heaven on a stick. This is a must have on all of our Disney-cations.
2. Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop inside California Adventure
If you have never been to a Ghirardelli before you HAVE to go here. This is a newer addition to California Adventure but one that we are so very thankful for. When you’re ready for a refreshing, cool treat during those Summer days at Disney why not stop in for a sundae. Everything here is delicious and the whole family can easily share one sundae. Bonus, they give you a free sample piece of chocolate right when you walk in the door.
3. Bread Bowls inside Disneyland and California Adventure
If you are craving a warm soup to satisfy your hunger you have to try one of the sourdough bread bowls in Disneyland and California Adventure. You can try clam chowder, broccoli and cheese, lobster bisque, several different types of gumbo and various seasonal soups.
The soup is always superb and the bread is always perfectly cooked. I only wish that more soup could fit inside the bread bowl.
Here are some of the locations with bread bowl soups:
- Pacific Wharf Cafe, Pacific Wharf inside California Adventure
- Royal Street Veranda, New Orleans Square inside Disneyland
- Harbour Galley, Critter Country inside Disneyland
4. Bacon & Sour Cream Stuffed Baked Potato at Troubadour Tavern inside Disneyland
If you didn’t already know I’m a sucker for potatoes. Nothing satisfies me more than a delicious stuffed baked potato. It’s super filling and the one at Troubadour Tavern is also very cheap. A baked potato like this one can fill up two people for several hours. Be sure to watch Mickey and the Magical Map show while you’re in the area.
5. Chili Cone Queso at Cozy Cone Motel inside California Adventure
Inside California Adventure Cars land you will find the famous Cozy Cone Motel. It is all set up with several little orange cones offering up some awesome snacks and drinks. The food is wrapped inside a bread cone that is perfect for dipping and eating.
The Chili Cone Queso is one of our favorites and it has stuck around for a while. The chicken verde is delicious as well so why not try them both! The con queso is made up of a breaded cone that is filled with chili and topped with cheese and corn chips. We promise, it is YUMMY.
While you’re there check out some of the awesome pretzels and unique drinks offered including grape tonic and pear soda.
6. Fruit Smoothies at Schmoozies inside California Adventure
Smoothies are great when the weather is warm and you’re not quite hungry yet. They can tide you over between meals. Schmoozies inside California Adventure is perfect for the mid afternoon pick-me-up that we all need during a long day at the Disneyland Resort.
You can grab a fruit smoothie for the kids and a coffee or blended mocha for yourself. The make mine mocha is frozen chocolate espresso topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. My mouth is already drooling.
7. Pineapple Dole Whip Float at the Tiki Juice Bar inside Disneyland
No Disneyland trip would be complete without the classic dole whip. The soft serve pinapple ice cream that makes a perfectly sweet and refreshing snack. We prefer the float version where they add pineapple juice to the cup. Grab one of these from the Enchanted Tiki Room line and catch the show while chowing down on this awesome treat.
8. Jungle Skewers at Bengal Barbecue inside Disneyland
As far as cheap eats at Disneyland goes, these skewers take the medal. For just a couple of bucks you can pick up a meat or veggie skewer right outside of the Jungle Cruise ride. I mean who doesn’t like meat on a stick? There are a variety of different skewers and each one has a unique and flavorful sauce. The lines here can get long but if you’re looking for a cheap snack don’t miss out. Our favorite part of these skewers? They’re easy to eat on the go.
9. Main Street Popcorn inside Disneyland and California Adventure
When you walk into the shops on Main Street U.S.A. you are likely going to find prepacked popcorn. You might have passed on this crunchy treat before but I beg you to try it. Disney has come up with so many new flavors of popcorn: maple bacon, siracha kettle corn, truffle, churro and parmesan garlic just to name a few.
The great thing about popcorn, you don’t have to eat it right away. It makes a great snack all throughout the day. We have always been partial to cheese flavors but the other flavors are AMAZING. After trying some, we promise you will want to take home several bags of this popcorn.
10. Pulled Pork Dog at Hungry Bear Restaurant inside Disneyland
When you want bang for your buck look for the most food at the lowest price. The pulled pork dog is a very large hot link style dog topped with sweet pulled pork and pickled jalapenos. It is sweet and spicy all at the same time. The hot dog itself is great and can easily feed 2 but the real reason this place is great is because of the crowds. The Hungry Bear restaurant is tucked far in the back of Disneyland so while most of the crowds are in other areas you can enjoy your meal without less hustle and bustle.
